What is Teeth Whitening?
Whitening is a simple, quick and easy way to brighten up your smile by using a gel on your teeth either overnight or at our clinic. It is amazing how much better your teeth can look by whitening them.
Types of Whitening
There are five main ways we can whiten your teeth.
- Take-home Whitening kit with a custom made tray: This method you have the luxury of bleaching your teeth at your own leisure at home. The time taken for this is typically up to 2 weeks, wearing the trays from 30mins (day bleach) to 8h (night bleach) a day.
- In-chair Whitening: We aim to whiten all your teeth in an hour. You will still get a custom tray to take home just in case you need to whiten them more. This is the best method if you need to whiten your teeth in a hurry.
- Internal bleaching: Whitening powder is placed internally inside your tooth, generally after root canal treatment. We use this to correct intrinsic stains (eg. a dark tooth).
- Enamel Micro-abrasion: Not technically a whitening procedure, but is typically used to ensure uniform colour throughout a tooth using special paste and an abrasive brush.
- ICON Infiltration: Not technically a whitening procedure, but is typically used to ensure uniform colour throughout a tooth using small resin particles.
All our whitening products are TGA approved and we follow the strict government guidelines on the concentration we can use.

Signs you might need to whiten your teeth
The most obvious sign is yellow or stained teeth.
Remember, not all teeth are suitable for whitening. Some darken teeth may require cosmetic treatments like veneers or dental crowns. We also recommend that you whiten your teeth AFTER all your dental work (eg. dental fillings) are finished.
Side Effects of tooth bleaching?
Firstly, we assess your your oral health to see if you are a suitable candidate for whitening. Patients who are very young, who with poor oral hygiene or large root exposures are not good candidates. The most common side effect is tooth sensitivity, which is usually temporary in nature. Some rare cases may experience pro-longed sensitivity.

- How long doses whitening last?
- There are many variables for this. Generally, most patients will only bleach their teeth once a year at most. Certain foods and drink can stain your teeth quickly and you may find that you will have to bleach your teeth on a more regular basis. If you have an existing tray that fits you and you have had a check-up recently, we can sell you a bleach refill kit.
