What is a General Dentistry?

General dentistry is the branch of dentistry that focuses on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of a wide range of oral health conditions. General dentists are primary care providers for dental health, much like a general practitioner (GP). They cater to patients of all ages and address everyday dental needs, ensuring that patients maintain healthy teeth and gums.

This means we are experts in everyday dentistry such as cleans, fillings, extractions, root canals and crowns to name a few.

We are also the first dentist you generally see prior to being referred onto a dental specialist. That said, a general dentist is able to perform all aspects of dentistry, and not just the basics. Only complex or high risk procedures are referred to specialist.

Why should I see a General Dentist?

Just like GPs, as general dentist, we are the primary treatment planners for most dental cases. This means we are in-charge of your oral health and are responsible to ensuring that all the steps are taken to improve it. This involves us interviewing and first examining our patients for their dental health problems. From there, we can plan, budget and and treat (or refer) as required.

Together as a multi-disciplinary team at Dental at Keys – we are able to incorporate all aspects of general dental care and to ensure you have the best oral health outcome. All members of our team including our lovely support staff regularly go on training courses to keep up to date with the latest procedures and technology. That’s why our clinic has amazing state of the art equipment.
